William J. Quinones-Baldrich MD
SCVS President, 2016-2017

Dear SCVS members,

It has been a busy year so far and thanks to the hard work of the Program Committee plans are now finalized for our Annual Meeting, March 18-22, 2017 at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club in Lake Buena Vista, near Orlando, Florida. The very popular Young Vascular Surgeons program, Fellows program, Incoming Fellows program, and Top Gun competition will complement the main program.

The presentations for the main meeting programs are outstanding, competitively selected from a record number of abstracts submitted by our members. There will be Focused Sessions on reporting standards for PAD and venous disease, and unusual topics in aortic pathology. Special interest group sessions (SIGS) on abdominal and thoracic aortic cases, venous disease, dialysis access, and PVD will take place early in the morning of Monday and Wednesday. The International Panel will certainly be a highlight with very provocative presentations from the United Kingdom, France, and New Zealand. Our distinguished visiting professor this year is Dr. Germano Melissano from Milan, Italy, with a presentation titled "Aortic Dissection: Patient true stories and the innovations that saved their life". There will also be industry sponsored symposia with specific presentations relevant to our clinical practice. I encourage all to attend the Vascular Fellows reception Saturday afternoon and the Women in Vascular Surgery reception, just prior to the finals of the Top Gun competition, Monday afternoon.

Our membership continues to grow and thanks to the effort of the membership committee, candidate members are joining our Society as full members. I welcome all new members and hope you attend our annual meeting. The SCVS is the premier clinical society of our specialty and helps disseminate new information promoting the highest quality patient care and best outcomes. It is important that we continue seek out colleagues and recent vascular graduates and encourage them to attend this year’s meeting and join the SCVS.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the members of the SCVS Executive Council for their support throughout this year. In particular, Dr. Colleen Moore, Chairman, and the entire program committee, for their commitment to excellence in developing the program by selecting the best amongst close to 300 abstracts submitted by our members. New initiatives are being developed and will be discussed at the business meeting. For the first time this year, all the presentations and videos of specific portions of the program will be available to all members, shortly after the meeting, on the SCVS website.

Disney's Yacht and Beach club is located within the Disney World complex. It is an excellent venue and an opportunity to bring your family and at the same time enjoy time with friends and colleagues. I hope you will join us in what will be an outstanding Annual Meeting.
