Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery
2015 Annual Symposium: President's Message
Robert B. McLafferty, MD, SCVS President, 2014-2015
Robert B. McLafferty, MD
SCVS President, 2014-2015

It is an honor and a privilege to be President of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery. I am greatly appreciative and want to thank all of my professional colleagues and friends in the Society for the opportunity to be one of a long line of leaders for this important vascular organization.

As was decided in 2013 the SCVS Council, after multiple leadership discussions and a thorough review of the options, to change the day format of our Annual Symposium. Our 2015 annual meeting will begin on the weekend and end during the week. The rationale for this being improved date availability and rates at outstanding venues that our attendees have come to expect and enjoy. The dates, again, for the 2015 SCVS Annual Symposium are:

March 29 (Sunday) to April 2 (Thursday), 2015
Fontainebleau, Miami
Miami, Florida

Please note the new days of our program so you can plan your attendance accordingly.

As with previous years, the program in March will offer our high standard of comprehensive education, as well as most enjoyable social gatherings in a location that received high marks from the attendees in 2013. The social program in the new format will be as follows:

  • Welcome Reception: Monday, March 30th, 5:30pm 6:30pm
  • Annual Banquet: Wednesday, April 1st, 6:30pm 9:00pm

All other Information on the 2015 meeting, which is updated regularly, can be accessed by visiting:
http://scvs.org/symposium/index.cgi.

The SCVS Fellows and Incoming Fellows programs are notable educational offerings for younger surgeons within our specialty. Attendees to these programs receive both travel reimbursement and complimentary registration to the main SCVS Annual Symposium. Under the new format these programs will take place:

  • Fellows Program:
    • Program: March 29 (Sunday), 2015 a full day of programming
    • Reception: March 29 (Sunday), 2015 at 6:00pm
  • Incoming Fellows Program:
    • Program: March 30 (Monday), 2015 part one in the early evening
    • Program: March 31 (Tuesday), 2015 part two in the afternoon

I encourage your newer surgeons to participate in these programs and information on them, likewise, is accessible via the 2015 program website at http://symposium.scvs.org/index.cgi.

The SCVS also offers the Young Vascular Surgeons Program, an evening symposium for our peers who are newly established in practice, and the Vascular Top Gun Competition which provides simulation training on multiple platforms. Both of these will now take place on Tuesday (March 31, 2015) and registration for these programs is also available via the main meeting website.

The educational offerings mentioned above, as well as that of the SCVS Annual Symposium, have all been strongly supported by our industry partners. On behalf of the SCVS and its leadership I am thanking them again for their important contributions that have made the SCVS educational programming so successful.

Membership in the SCVS benefits us in numerous ways and I encourage you to reach out to your associates to promote membership in the SCVS if they have not already signed up. Application information can be viewed by visiting http://scvs.org/Membership_Application.cgi. Please also share your thoughts on how the Society can further enhance its membership offerings via the SCVS offices at SCVS@prri.com or 978.927.8330.

Respectfully,

Robert B. McLafferty, MD
